On April 14, 2016 “Gazprom Neft Badra” company (GPNB) handed over two ambulance cars to Iraqi authorities. The ceremony of hand-over took place at Badra Youth Club and was attended by the Governor of Wassit province Malik Khalaf Wadi, GPNB Managing Director Sergei Karavaev, the Head of “Gazprom Neft” International Business Department Vyacheslav Nikonorov, the Head of Wassit Public Health Directorate Jabbar al-Yassiri and Badra Mayor Jaafar Mullamohammed.
In his speech during the ceremony Wassit Governor stressed the importance of social projects which GPNB implements in the region in order to improve the quality of life of local people and expressed his hope that the cooperation with GPNB in this sphere will continue. The Governor added that the two ambulances will be of great help to the inhabitants of Badra town and the nearby villages and hamlets. The fact that the distance between the district and the closest hospital in El-Kut exceeds 80 km makes the transportation of the sick a difficult task, he said.
Mr. Wadi also underlined the importance of the project of electrical grids’ development in Badra, Jassan and Zurbatya being currently implemented by GPNB, and the projects of regional electrical grids’ modernization already accomplished by the company, as well as the building of two schools which are being used for more than two years.
In response Vyacheslav Nikonorov, speaking in Arabic, said that good relations with Iraqi authorities represent a very important resource for the company’s development in Iraq. These relations played their crucial role at the time when “Gazprom Neft” decided to take part in Badra oil field development tender, he added. Vyacheslav Nikonorov also underscored the great economic importance of Badra project, which is being implemented in the context of close historical ties between the two countries. “Gazprom Neft” activities in Iraq should not only give economic dividends, but also bring together the people in order to create positive climate for the complex development of bilateral partnership, said he.
While handing over the keys, Sergei Karavaev emphasized that the projects aiming to improve the quality of life of local people are the priority of “Gazpromneft” in all regions where it develops its projects. He also said that GPNB will continue its social program, adding that the company now actively prepares the initiative aiming at training local specialists in order to employ them at the infrastructural objects being currently constructed at the oil field. Now more than 3500 local people are employed by GPNB and its contractors, added Sergei Karavaev.
